Local/Turkish joint venture wins $342.5m construction contract

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy has awarded the contract to build the $342.5m stadium at Al-Thumama to a joint venture of the local AlJaber Engineering and Turkey’s Tekfen Construction.

Also known as the Fifth Precinct, the stadium will seat 40,000 people and will host matches up to the quarter-finals of football’s Fifa 2022 World Cup. The stadium will have a reduced capacity of 20,000 seats after the tournament as part of the supreme committee’s modular stadium legacy plans.

The stadium is located on a 515,400-square-metre site that already has four outdoor training pitches and office facilities currently used by the Technical Committee of the Qatar Football Association.

Levelling and grading works have been completed by the local Boom Construction.

The consultant is the local Arab Engineering Bureau. The project manager is US-based Turner International Middle East.
