13 May 2012

Contractors now have until 21 May to submit bids for contract

Qatar’s Lusail Real Estate Development Company has extended the submission date for contractors to submit bids for an infrastructure package on its Lusail development.

Contractors now have until 21 May to submit bids for the infrastructure package 4, also known as CP4. The work will involve building two sections of connecting road, south to north and east to west, for a total length of 5.2km with six lanes. The work will also involve building four underpasses and a bridge. Prospective bidders for the road package include:

  • Al-Jaber Engineering (UAE)
  • Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) (Athens-based)
  • Daewoo (Soth Korea)
  • Hyundai Engineering & Construction (South Korea)
  • Al-Habtoor Leighton (UAE/Australia)
  • Midmac Contracting (local)
  • Samsung C&T (South Korea)
  • Ssangyong (South Korea)
  • Yuksel (Turkey)

The developer recently received bids for a utilities and infrastructure package on the Lusail development, also known as CP6B. The work will involve building a bridge approach ramp, telecommunications and electrical systems. It will also include a stormwater network and irrigation system.

The Lusail development is one of the biggest real estate schemes in the Middle East. Located 22 kilometres north of Doha, the scheme covers a total area of 35,000 square kilometres and is planned to house up to 200,000 people. The development is a key part of Qatar’s World Cup plans and will accommodate the Lusail Iconic stadium, the largest sports arena for the event, with a capacity to accommodate more than 80,000 people.

In January, the developer awarded South Korea’s Samsung C&T a $296m contract to build infrastructure at the Lusail scheme. The work will involve the construction of a 10.7km-long road, which will include a 1.5km underground motorway.
