Qatar extends deadline for pumping station tender

02 February 2014

Work will involve building new pumping station and interceptor sewers in Doha

Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has extended the deadline for the contract to build a new sewage pumping station and interceptor sewers in Doha.

The new submission date is 18 February. The original submission date was 28 January.

The contract will involve building main sewer tunnels for interception of sewage flow from PS 2, located on the north side of Al-Meena Street, PS 7, PS 8, just north of the Ras Aboud flyover cornice crossing, and PS 9, which is located close to the C ring road.

The main work will involve building a new pumping station, PS 16N, and associated facilities on the site of the existing PS 16N pumping station. PS 16 will be refurbished and will remain in operation throughout the construction of the new pumping station. Pumping stations PS 2, PS 7 and PS 8 will be decommissioned and demolished following the commissioning of the interceptor tunnels and the new pumping station PS 16N.

Qatar is planning to invest heavily in expanding and upgrading its water and sewage systems in the next decade as it undertakes its World Cup 2022 infrastructure programme.

Ashghal has also invited companies to submit bids for the contract to operate and maintain pumping stations throughout the country.

Companies have until 4 February 2014 to submit bids for the operation and maintenance (O&M) of all of Ashghal’s existing pumping stations in Qatar. The appointed firm will also provide O&M services for any new pumping stations added to the authority’s network during the contract period, and will be responsible for providing all of the required equipment and labour to service and maintain pumping stations and associated infrastructure.
