Qatar Petroleum to launch Halul island masterplan

30 March 2009
Qatar Petroleum (QP) will approach contractors to conduct a consultancy study for a masterplan covering the offshore storage and export centre at Halul island, about 80 kilometres northeast of Doha.

The state-run firm says the study will work out what capacity is needed for the centre's utility networks, civil infrastructure work and crude oil storage.

The company plans to issue a tender shortly. It wants to award the contract by the third quarter of 2009.

QP currently ships crude oil from at least five offshore oil fields to storage tanks at Halul before it is transported to tankers.

A wider expansion plan was launched in 2008, which includes the second phase of the refurbishment of Halul harbour to accommodate larger vessels.
