Contractors are competing for work on the Ras Abu Aboud stadium and the Al-Thumama stadium

Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy is understood to have received bids for two stadium projects in Doha, according to sources close to the schemes.

The authority in charge of delivering all stadiums in preparation for the Fifa World Cup 2022 has received bids for the Ras Abu Aboud stadium and the Al-Thumama stadium, previously known as the Fourth and Fifth Prescient stadiums.

The Ras Abu Aboud Stadium, which is also known as the Fourth Precinct, will be developed near to Hamad International airport in the Ras Abu Aboud area. The consultant is US-based Populous while the project manager is Turner International.

The Al-Thumama stadium, which was previously known as the Fifth Precinct, will seat 40,000 people and will host matches up to the quarter-finals. The consultant is the local Arab Engineering Bureau while the project manager is US-based Turner International Middle East.

In November 2016, Qatar appointed a joint venture of the local HBK Contracting and China Railway Construction Corporation as the main contractor for the Lusail Stadium.

The 80,000-seat stadium is the largest planned for football’s Fifa 2022 World Cup, and will be used to host the tournament’s final match.

US-based Turner International Middle East is the project management consultant.
