Pipeline provides natural gas to UAE and Oman
Qatars foreign minister has said Qatar will not cut the supply of gas through the Dolphin pipeline to the UAE in response to the economic blockade.
Speaking following an address to Chatham House in London on 5 July, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Qatar, said that Doha would not move to cut off the supply of gas to the dolphin pipeline, which supplies 30 per cent of the total gas required for power generation in the UAE. The pipeline also sends gas to Oman.
Im not sure about the number but about 30-40 per cent of UAE electricity comes from [gas] from Qatar, and 80 per cent of electricity in Dubai, said Al-Thani. Even if we have a political conflict we cannot mix the cards together.
This is Qatars reputation for the future we are not wishing to put this in jeopardy, and the people of Dubai or UAE dont deserve to be affected.
Al-Thani gave the address in London in response to the economic blockade and list of 13 demands that Qatar had been set by Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Egypt to restore diplomatic ties and remove border crossings and airspace restrictions.
