Qatari telecoms firm to be renamed Ooredoo
Qatari telecoms firm Qtel Group will undergo a rebrand as it looks to continue its rapid expansion in developing markets across the Middle East, North Africa and South-east Asia.
The company, which has been renamed Ooredoo (Arabic for ‘I want’) will gradually roll-out the new brand in existing markets over the next two years.
Qtel’s regional operating companies include Qtel in Qatar, Nawras in Oman and Tunisiana in Tunisia. These divisions will be renamed Ooredoo.
Qtel Group provides services to more than 89 million subscribers and reported $6.8bn in consolidated revenues in the first nine months of 2012.
