The race is understood to have narrowed to two contractors for the main construction contract on the Bahrain City Centre mall. They are the local AA Nass, with South Africa's Murray & Roberts Contractors (Middle East);and the local Cebarco, with Australia's Multiplex Construction and Malaysia's WCT.
Four groups submitted bids in November for the contract. However, prices came in significantly over the estimated BD 130 million-140 million ($342.1 million-368.4 million) budget of the client, Dubai-based Majid al-Futtaim Investments. The two were originally requested to rebid on the concrete structure alone on the understanding that an award would be made on that basis, but plans appear to have changed and negotiations remain ongoing. The UK's Mace Internationalis the project manager; Mott MacDonald, also of the UK, is the lead consultant (MEED 11:11:05).
