RAK Airways is in discussions with its state owners over a government bailout to save the airline.
The carrier will make an announcement about its future in late-February, but sources at the company say talks are ongoing with the government of Ras Al Khaimah over an injection of cash to restart the business. The value of the deal is still unknown.
RAK Airways has not flown commercial flights since December, amid financial difficulties. Sporadic charter services have also petered out.
Ras Al Khaimah International airport has opened talks with a range of foreign airlines to boost traffic at the site, which has fallen as a result of the state carrier’s difficulties (MEED 23:2:09).
