Saudi Arabia's Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has issued a design-and-build tender for the upgrade of roads at the Wadi Laban cable bridge.
The planned project aims to ease the traffic congestion around the western ring road in the area extending from Ibn-Hazm Road to Jeddah Road. The contract also covers the construction of an intersection at Jeddah Road.
The bid submission deadline is 19 November.
In 2021, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud said that the population of Riyadh will double to 15-20 million people by 2030.
He directed government entities to work closely with the RCRC on preparing the city’s development strategy.
Some of the RCRC's major projects include Riyadh Metro, Riyadh Art, Sports Boulevard, King Salman International Park, Green Riyadh and the Diriyah Gate project.
In June, Saudi Arabia announced its plans to invest $7.8bn in Expo 2030 if Riyadh is selected to host the event in November this year.
The figure was revealed in Paris at the 172nd General Assembly of the expo organising body, the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), on 20 June.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is also the chairman of the RCRC, was in Paris to promote the kingdom's efforts to host the event.
The RCRC also unveiled the masterplan for the expo site. It will have 226 spherical-shaped pavilions, offering an immersive global experience and a blend of cultures. The pavilions will be arranged based on countries’ longitudes.
The expo site will be developed close to King Salman International airport, with links to Riyadh’s soon-to-be-completed metro network. Saudi officials say the event will attract over 40 million visitors.
