Russia’s aviation authority has banned Egypt’s national carrier from flying to Russia.

According to local media the move to ban Egypt Air was to ensure it met safety requirements.

Flights from Russia to Egypt are already suspended after a passenger plane crashed in the Sinai in October, killing all 224 passengers, mostly Russian nationals.

Jihadist group Sinai Province has said it brought down the Metrojet flight from Sharm el-Sheikh to St Petersburg, with the UK and US saying that intelligence suggests a bomb was planted on board the flight.

Despite this, Egypt and Russia have both said it is too early to confirm the cause of the crash.

Egyptian and Russian officials are still investigating the debris at the crash site with results from the black box expected this week.
