Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (Sabic) has awarded Japan’s Toyo Engineering an energy optimisation contract for an existing ammonia plant in Saudi Arabia.

The terms of the deal will see the Japanese contractor optimise the energy consumption at the Al-Jubail Fertiliser Company (Al-Bayroni) plant in the kingdom. The plant has a capacity of 1,300 tonnes a day. The exact value of the deal has not been disclosed.

The scope of works includes optimising all of the ammonia plants and package boilers at the site and it will be completed in the second quarter of 2013. Toyo will be in charge of all engineering, procurement, construction, pre-commissioning and commissioning assistance and the contract will be executed on a lump-sum turnkey basis.
