Sadara signs Jubail railway network agreement

01 December 2011

Proposed railway would link Sadara’s manufacturing facilities to ports

The Sadara Chemical Company and the Saudi Arabian Railway Company (SAR) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to design and build a railway network in Jubail Industrial City.

SAR will design and build a railway to transport Sadara’s products from the manufacturing facilities at its complex, which is currently being built in Jubail Industrial City II, to King Fahd Industrial Port (KFIP) and Jubail Commercial Port (JCP).

The agreement is part of the MOU signed in November between the Saudi Railway Company and Sadara Chemical Company, represented by its parent companies Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemical, to study, design and build a railway network to link its industrial complex with export facilities at King Fahd Industrial Port and Jubail Commercial Port through trains and freight cars to transport products and other upcoming industrial complexes in the area.

The construction designs for the railway are expected to be completed in 2012 and the railway is expected to be operational by 2014 if approved.
