Sahara to shut down two Saudi chemicals plants for maintenance

Plants due for turnaround include polypropylene and caustic soda facilities

Sahara Petrochemicals Company will shut down two of its joint-venture petrochemicals plants in Jubail, Saudi Arabia, to carry out maintenance work.

Al-Waha Petrochemical, a 75:25 joint venture of Sahara and New York-listed LyondellBasell, will shut down fits propylene and polypropylene plant from 7 March for 32.5 days.

The 50:50 joint venture Sahara and Maaden Petrochemical Company (SAMAPCO), which produces caustic soda and ethylene dichloride (EDC), will shut down its operations from 10 March for 25 days.

“The financial impact depending on the expected prices of feedstock and the products will be reflected in the financial results of the First and second quarter of 2017,” Sahara said in a Saudi Stock Exchange filing.
