South Korea's Samsung Corporation has received a letter of award for a contract to build two district-cooling plants at the Al-Dhafra airbase in Abu Dhabi. Estimated to be worth AED 130 million ($35 million), the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract involves the construction of cooling towers, plant rooms and related pipeline works (MEED 29:11:02; 25:10:02).

The larger of the two proposed plants, Phoenix 1, involves the supply and installation of a unit with refrigeration capacity of 15,000 tonnes. For Phoenix 2, a 7,200-tonne capacity plant is planned. The facilities will take 14 months to complete.

The consultant is the US' Stanley Consultants; the client is the local National Central Cooling Company (Tabreed).
