Sarkozy arrived in the country on 3 December on a three-day visit.
The deals are likely to include billion-dollar agreements with French companies Total and Gaz de France.
France imports 16 per cent of its natural gas supplies and 6 per cent of its oil from Algeria and is the largest investor in Algeria’s non-energy sectors. In 2006, trade between the two countries exceeded $8bn.
The visit has been at the centre of some controversy after Mohamed Cherif Abbas, Algerian Veterans Minister, said Sarkozy was elected thanks to the Jewish lobby.France’s refusal to apologise for crimes it is accused of committing during its rule in Algeria has also continued to strain relations.
