Industrial city will contribute $6bn towards Saudi economy when fully commissioned
State oil company Saudi Aramco is planning to complete the first phase of its planned Energy Industrial City in 2021.
According to a statement issued by the oil company, it has set a target for completing the initial phase of the Energy City, which will be located between Dammam and Ahsa in the Eastern region of the kingdom.
The first phase of the city will cover an area of about 12 square kilometres, with the full city planned to be developed over an area of 50 square kilometres.
The Saudi Industrial Property Authority (Modon), the entity which develops industrial cities in the kingdom, has started to set plans with Aramco to oversee the development and operate the energy city.
Saudi Arabias energy minister Khalid al-Falih has previously stated that the energy city will contribute SR22.5bn ($6bn) towards the countrys GDP annually when fully commissioned.
