More than 22,000 Saudi citizens have left Egypt

More than 22,000 Saudi citizens have been evacuated from Egypt as riots continue across the capital.

Ibrahim bin Hamad al-Hamid, head of Saudi Affairs at the Saudi Arabia embassy in Cairo says that 85 flights have now left various parts of Egypt. On 30 January alone, 5,103 Saudi citizens flew out of the country.

Al-Hamid says that the number of flights out of Egypt has increased by an additional eight flights a day and that larger aircraft are being deployed to accommodate the large volume of Saudi citizens.

Egyptians are continuing to protest against President Hosni Mubarak, who has said he will not stand down until the elections in September. The United Nations has estimated that about 300 people have been killed since the protests began at the end of January.
