Selex wins air traffic control contract for Doha airport

29 July 2008
The Italian group Selex Sistemi Integrati has won a contract worth about $105m to design and provide air and ground traffic control systems at Qatar’s New Doha International Airport.

The subsidiary of the aerospace and defence giant Finmeccanica, announced on 29 July that it has been selected to provide radar for air and ground traffic control at the site, as well as a complete meteorological system for the project.

The New Doha International Airport aims to provide capacity for about 60 million passengers once completed in 2015. Selex will have its systems in place by early 2010.

Like many such projects in the region however, it has suffered from rising costs. The budget for the entire project has recently soared from $5.5bn to $9bn.
