

Bahrain Marina Development Company has appointed Hong Kong- based Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts as the operate for the hotel at the Bahrain Marina development.
Shangri-La Hotel will manage a hotel with 250 hotel rooms, 150 one to three bedroom suites, eight beach chalets and 21 waterfront villas.
The first phase of the Bahrain Marina project on the eastern coastline of Manama is expected to be completed by 2020. The hotel is scheduled to open in 2022.
Dredging and reclamation work completed this year. The contract was the local Al-Hassanain Contracting Company.
The consultants working on the project include Arcadis of the Netherlands, the UK’s Benoy, US-based Aecom and the local Hisham Abdulrahman Jaffer.
The project manager is the UK’s Linesight.
Bahrain Marina Development Company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Social Insurance Organisation (SIO).
At the end of last year the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) said investment in Bahrain’s tourism infrastructure had reached over $13bn.
The projects are part of Bahrain’s large-scale infrastructure development across a wide range of sectors and are valued at over $32bn. This public-private sector investment consists of $10bn of government funding, $7.5bn under the GCC Development Fund, and $15bn worth of investment in the private sector.
New five and four-star hotels and resorts are being built to cater to current and future demand. Supporting these developments, Bahrain International Airport is undergoing a $1.1bn upgrade that will increase passenger capacity from nine to 14 million a-year by 2020.
