Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Thani
Position: Minister of economy and trade
Biography: Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Thani resigned as head of the state-owned Al-Jazeera Media Network to take up the newly created post of minister of economy and trade under Qatars new emir.
Sheikh Ahmed spent almost two years as director general of Al-Jazeera. Beginning in September 2011, he presided over a corporate restructure, and the purchasing of US cable channel, Current TV.
He leaves his post just ahead of the launch of Al-Jazeera America in the coming months. Sheikh Ahmad was previously chief operating officer of engineering and ventures at state-owned Qatargas.
