Position: Abu Dhabi ruler’s representative in the Western Region
Biography: Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan is the Abu Dhabi’s ruler’s representative in the Western Region, making him the most influential figure directing government policy in Al-Gharbia.
Sheikh Hamdan is the fourth son of the founder of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, and the younger brother of Abu Dhabi ruler Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan. He also serves as deputy prime minister of the UAE.
Sheikh Hamdan was undersecretary of foreign affairs from 1985 to 1990 then was the minister of state for foreign affairs between 1990 and 2005. He is the chairman of the Environment Agency, Abu Dhabi, and president of the UAE Red Crescent Authority. Sheikh Hamdan served as president of the UAE Football Association from 1984 to 1993.
