Biography: Salman bin Hassan al-Thani joined the QFC Authority in July 2014, bringing financial risk management experience to the roles of chief financial officer and director of tax.
He began his career in the project finance department of Qatar Petroleum and was primarily responsible for securing financing for greenfield projects for QP and its subsidiaries, as well as the refinancing of existing upstream, midstream and downstream projects.
He then joined Qatar Central Bank as head of section, systemic risk in the newly formed risk management department before being promoted to lead the department as director of risk management. Al-Thani has been a board member at Qatar Central Securities Depository, was a member of the Investment Committee of Qatar Central Bank and was responsible for various Central Bank projects related to the setting up of Qatars financial infrastructure.
He graduated from Qatar University with a Bachelor of Business Administration, majoring in banking and financial studies.
