Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has awarded Germany’s Siemens a contract to provide and install three electrical substations in Qatar.

The firm will supply three 132kV substations as part of phase 11 of Kahramaa’s transmission and distribution (T&D) programme. The substations will form an important part of the infrastructure required for the country hosting the Fifa World Cup in 2022.

The first substation, Al-Wukair 1, will be located within the Al-Wakra stadium boulevard about 10 kilometres from Doha. The second, the Al-Heedan substation, will be located at the proposed Al-Khor stadium, and the third substation, Learaig, will be installed at the Salwa Beach Resort, which is near Qatar’s border with Saudi Arabia.

Kahramaa has invited companies to submit bids for several contracts for phase 13 of the T&D programme.
