Only two companies priced the contract by the 24 August deadline. The other bidder was Alstom of France, which offered a price of KD 28.7 million ($95 million). The 14-month project covers the supply of two transformers.
The client is the Ministry of Electricity & Water, which plans more transmission and distribution work in Kuwait.
Bids are due to be returned by 14 September, following an extension in the deadline, for a contract to supply and install three 132/11-kV substations at Ahmed al-Fahed C and D and Khalidiya.
Estimated to be worth KD 10 million ($32 million), the contract also includes the extension of the existing 132/11-Kv substation at Ahmadi-A. Twelve international companies are prequalified to bid for the 14-month contract (MEED 11:7:03).
Also, bids are due to be returned by 21 September for a contract to supply and install two 132/33/11-kV substations at Abdali A and Retqa in northern Kuwait. The project is worth KD 6 million ($20 million).
