12 March 2014

The centres will control distribution networks in remote areas

A consortium of Germany’s Siemens and Japan’s Sumitomo corporation has been awarded a $43m contract to install two control centres for a network of 150 substations with capacities ranging from132kV to 220kV.

The contract involves supplying 150 substations with new supervisory control and data acquisition technology. The consortium will also install the centres and provide commissioning and training services.

The client for the project is the government-owned Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC).

The substations are located in Nagaa-Hamadi and Samalout in northern Egypt. The project is part of Egypt’s efforts to expand its power network and provide electricity in remote areas.

The project is scheduled for completion in 2017.
