The Al-Zour South 3 plant will be converted into a combined cycle power plant
Germanys Siemens has been awarded a contract to supply the steam turbines for the conversion of the Al-Zour South 3 open cycle gas turbine power plant to a combined cycle power plant.
The contract has been awarded by Chinas Sepco III, which is the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the estimated $200m project that will increase the total installed capacity of the plant by 263 MW without using any additional gas.
The client is the Ministry of Electricity & Water (MEW).
The conversion projects are part of the MEWs programme to boost the countrys generation capacity as demand for power continues to grow at a rapid rate. The MEW estimates that an additional 10,500MW will be required to meet the projected 2022 peak load.
