Germany’s Siemens has been awarded a multimillion-dollar contract to provide services and upgrade power plants for Iraq’s Electricity Ministry.
Under the terms of the contract, Siemens will provide maintenance and upgrade services for seven generating units in four power plants. The plants will be located in the South Basra, Salah el-Deen, Middle Region and Middle Euphrates areas.
Iraq’s Electricity Ministry is pushing ahead with a major programme to boost capacity and increase productivity of its power plants, with the current 15,700MW of available power well short of the 23,775MW peak demand for electricity recorded in 2016.
In January, the US’ GE was awarded contracts for more than $1.4bn worth of power projects in Iraq.
