Hyflux to design and supply desalination plant at independent water and power project

Singapore’s Hydrochem, a subsidiary of Hyflux, has signed a $69m contract to design and supply the desalination plant at the Salalah independent water and power project (IWPP).

China’s Shandong 3 Electric Power Construction Corporation (Sepco 3), the power contractor on the scheme, awarded the contract.

The reverse osmosis desalination plant will have capacity of 15 million gallons a day of water. Hyflux will complete work on the project within 22 months of receiving notice to proceed.

The project is Hyflux’s first desalination scheme in Oman and the first time it has won an IWPP contract.

Sepco 3 will also build a 445MW power plant at the site.

A team of Singapore’s Sembcorp Utilities and Oman Investment Corporation is the developer.
