Contractor fast-tracks project in time for 2010 GCC summit
The local/Belgian Six Construct Abu Dhabi has won an estimated AED450m ($127m) contract to build a presidential terminal at Abu Dhabi International airport.
The new terminal will be built adjacent to the existing emiri terminal. The fast-track project has to be completed in time for the GCC summit which will take place in Abu Dhabi in late 2010.
The consultant on the scheme is France’s Aeroports de Paris. The client is the Presidential Affairs Ministry.
Separately, the Supervision Committee for the Expansion of Abu Dhabi International Airport (Scadia) is prequalifying companies for a contract to build a much larger passenger terminal at the airport (MEED 15:2:10).
The estimated $6.8bn midfield terminal will be built between Abu Dhabi International airport’s two runways. It will have a total built-up area of 630,000 square metres and capacity to handle up to 20 million passengers a year. The complex also includes a multi-floor car park.
The airport has been expanded a number of times over the past five years. The most recent project to be completed was a new terminal building for Etihad Airways.
The local/South African joint venture of Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprises and Murray & Roberts Contractors (Middle East) completed the work in 2008 at an estimated cost of AED814m.
