The Public Establishment for Industrial Estateshas invited consultants to bid by 21 October for the contract to design and supervise the construction of the Sohar industrial area's main infrastructure. The facilities will serve a number of large industrial projects that are planned for Sohar including a 110,000-barrel-a-day grassroots oil refinery, four petrochemical plants, and a 500,000-tonne-a-year aluminium smelter (MEED 9:8:02).
The selected consultant will be called upon to draw up designs for the zone's transport access, communications services, water and wastewater treatment requirements, and provide detailed plans for basic services such as electricity, street lighting, irrigation, as well as sewage and refuse collection.
The consultant will also prepare detailed tender documents and supervise the site's construction. The design phase of the contract is scheduled to take five months to complete. Construction supervision will be for a 22-month period.
