Wet gas scrubber still offline due to fire on 11 March, restart expected in August
Oman Oil Refineries & Petroleum Industries Company (Orpic) has completed a 50-day maintenance shutdown at its refinery and polypropylene plant in Sohar, northern Oman.
Startup activities after the shutdown will last two weeks from 26 April before ramping back up to normal production.
Orpic said that the refinery’s wet gas scrubber will not be operational due to a fire that occurred on 11 March. The unit is currently being rebuilt and is expected to be back online by mid-August.
The maintenance shutdown has prepared the plant for the upcoming Sohar refinery improvement project and emissions reduction work.
The 116,000 barrels a day (b/d) refinery is one of two refining complexes operated by Orpic in Oman. The unit provides propylene feedstock for site’s 350,000 tonnes a year (t/y) polypropylene plant.
