Medical testing in Germany completed

The ruler of Oman, Sultan Qaboos bin Said al-Said, has returned to the country, the Royal Diwan has announced.

The sultan left Oman in mid-February for medical testing. The Royal Diwan says the test results were good.

Sultan Qaboos spent eight months in Germany receiving medical treatment in 2014 and 2015, raising concerns over a serious illness. His public appearances have been limited since 2014.

The 76-year-old ruler has no sons or brothers, but several cousins. He does not plan to reveal a successor until after his death, and has yet to appoint any of these cousins to key government roles.
