ABB to build $48m Rabigh substation
Switzerland-based ABB has won a $48m order from China’s Shandong 3 Electric Power Construction Corporation (Sepco 3) for a substation in Saudi Arabia.
The companies signed the contract in the fourth quarter of 2009, according to an ABB statement on 7 January.
ABB will design, supply, install and commission the 380kV substation, which will be used to transmit power from the planned Rabigh independent power plant (IPP).
Sepco 3 is the engineering, procurement and construction contractor on the scheme. The developer team is made up of of Korea Electric Power Corporation and the local Acwa Power International.
The IPP is Saudi Electricity Company’s first ever privately developed project. The plant, 150 kilometres north of Jeddah, will have capacity of 1,200MW and is scheduled to be completed in 2011.
