Wind farm to be an independent power project
Syria’s Public Establishment of Electricity for Generation & Transmission (PEEGT) is set to shortlist prequalified companies to bid to build a wind farm by December 2010.
PEEGT received 17 responses to its request for qualification (RFQ), which was issued in 2009. The winning bidder will develop the wind farm on a build-own-operate or build-operate-transfer basis for 20-25 years.
PEEGT appointed a UK-based consortium of IPA Energy & Water Economics, Norton Rose and SgurrEnergy to advise on the project in July. Syria’s cabinet recently approved this appointment.
The advisers will work with PEEGT to shortlist prequalified developers before issuing a request for proposals (RFP).
Two sites have been earmarked two sites for the wind farm at Al-Sukhna, which is 70 kilometres east of Palmyra, and Al-Hijana, which is 50km south of Damascus. Each site is suitable for a 50-100MW project.
