Jeddah’s urban rail network is one of three new metro systems planned in Saudi Arabia

France’s Systra has been appointed to complete the preliminary engineering for the Jeddah Metro.

The SR276m ($74m) award is the latest consultancy contract to be let on the Jeddah Public Transport Project. In May, US-based Aecom was awarded a SR105m contract to provide pre-programme management consultancy services.

Under its 18-month contract, Aecom will provide staff to support the preliminary planning and design work for various phases of the metro project.

The Jeddah Metro is one of three new major metro projects planned in the kingdom, following the award of the main construction packages on the $22.5bn Riyadh Metro in May last year.
