Position: Commerce & industry minister

Biography: Tawfig al-Rabiah was appointed Commerce & Industry Minister in late 2011 after serving as director-general of the Saudi Industrial Property Authority (Modon). He has continued to work towards improving the standards of industrial zones and cities in Saudi Arabia with initiatives that include expanding and renovating current facilities.

Al-Rabiah’s previous roles include deputy minister of industrial affairs at the Commerce & Industry Ministry and supervisor of the National Industrial Strategy. He started his career as a faculty member of King Saud University in Riyadh before moving in to the information technology (IT) sector. Al-Rabiah is a former director-general of the information and communications technology sector at Sagia.

In addition to a degree in financial management and mathematics from King Saud University, he has a doctorate in computer science from the University of Pittsburgh in the US.
