16 June 2010

At least six groups have submitted bids

Abu Dhabi’s Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) has received bids for a contract to build its new corporate headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

TDIC received bids from at least six contractors on 13 June.

The bidders include:

  • The local Alec
  • The local/Australian Al-Habtoor Leighton Group
  • The local/Lebanese Arabian Construction Company (ACC)
  • Australia’s Multiplex
  • The local National Projects Construction (NPC)
  • South Korea’s Posco Engineering & Construction

The project involves the construction of three inter-linked office buildings of eight, four and five storeys, and a three-level car park. The total gross floor area of the project will be about 114,000 square metres.

The project will cover a total land area of 20,500 sq m.

Singapore’s Surbana is the consultant for the project.

The enabling works and basement structural works have been completed, and the estimated completion date for the entire project is the fourth quarter of 2011.

TDIC is currently developing a number of large projects in the emirate. One of these is the estimated $1bn Louvre Abu Dhabi museum on Saadiyat Island.

TDIC recently received bids for the substructure contract for the museum, and has invited contractors to bid for the main construction package by 1 July.

Designed by French architect Jean Nouvel, the Louvre Abu Dhabi is part of the capital’s 18-square-kilometre Saadiyat Island Cultural District, which will also include the new Sheikh Zayed National Museum (MEED 22:4:10)
