French company has already carried out the front-end engineering and design for 150,000 b/d facility
The Iraq State Company for Oil Projects (Scop) has awarded France’s Technip the project management consultancy (PMC) contract for the $4bn Karbala refinery in Iraq. The deal follows the front-end engineering and design (feed) work carried out by Technip in 2010.
The scope of work involves Technip carrying out the evaluation of the tenders for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts, as well as the overall management of the construction phase.
The Karbala refinery will have a capacity of 150,000 barrels a day when completed. The facility is expected to produce liquid petroleum gas, gasoline, jet fuel, diesel oil, asphalt and fuel oil for the domestic market.
