More than 80,000 direct and indirect jobs were created by Jordan's ICT sector between 1999 and 2008, according to a recent study, Jordan Times has reported. It said that almost 17,000 direct, almost 50,000 indirect and just over 15,000 induced jobs were created, including in sectors such as education, finance and healthcare. The study, which assessed the economic impact of the ICT sector on the kingdom, found that the sector's average contribution to Jordan's gross domestic product over the period was 13.9%. The study was commissioned by the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology, and its Minister, Marwan Juma, said: 'The study is important for the decision-making process. It highlights sectors that should be focused on. The figures in the study stress the importance of the ICT sector.'
