The Line outlines upcoming construction packages

The structures for the first modules will be split into shell and core packages

Neom has released details of the upcoming construction packages for the 500-metre-high 800-metre-long building modules that make up The Line at the Hidden Marina.

Modules 44-48 form the first part of The Line, which, when fully completed, is planned to have an ultimate length of about 170km.

Speaking at the Future Projects Forum in Riyadh on 21 May, Abdullah AlMasoud, executive director for project procurement at Neom said that the plan is for the structures at the marina to be split into 12 individual shell and core packages. The final number of packages could change depending on feedback from the market. In total the buildings will require 7 million square metres of internal and external facades and cladding and will have about 80,000 residential units.

The marina substructure will be over 7 kilometres long and will require 2.4 million square metres of cladding and facades. Construction work for this substructure is expected to be tendered in 21 separate contract packages split by area.

Procurement is ongoing for other packages. Earlier this year, Neom invited contractors to prequalify to bid for contracts involving structural works, including constructing the building cores.

Contractors are preparing to submit bids for the raft foundations for modules 44, 45, 46, 47 and 48. The raft construction will include the world’s second-largest concrete pour of 43,000 cubic metres onto what is referred to as the mega core.

The raft foundation follows on from piling work for The Line. Piling work in the marina area began last year. Nine contractors were engaged for the piling as part of a framework agreement. Contractors were also engaged in the excavation work for the marina, which involved moving about 1 million cubic metres of earth every week, making it the world’s largest excavation project.
