Toshiba subsidiary wins Oman wastewater deal

10 March 2016

Company will build treated effluent and recycling facilities at Sohar port

UEM India Private Limited, a subsidiary of Japan’s Toshiba Group, has been awarded a contract to design and build a wastewater treatment and recycling plant in Oman.

The government-owned Majis Industrial Services Company, which provides utility services for the Sohar Industrial Port area, has awarded UEM a contract worth about RO12.3m ($32m) to design and build a central effluent treatment system and the second phase of the associated recycling system.

UEM is already constructing the first phase of the central effluent and recycling system at the Sohar development.

The Toshiba subsidiary will provider operation and maintenance services for the first 10 years of operation.

MEED reported in October 2015 that Majis could build another five industrial wastewater plants in various parts of Sohar industrial hub, including Sohar Industrial Estate, depending on demand and the 2016-2020 five-year plan. They will range in size from 3 to 10 million imperial gallons a day, and aim to treat water to a standard of 25ppm DS, to reuse 90-95 per cent of the water.
