Joint venture firm launches 40,000-tonne-a-year lubes plant built near Alexandria

A joint venture of France’s Total and Libyan petroleum trader Oilibya has inaugurated a new oil-blending plant, at Borg el-Arab in the north of Egypt.

The new facility includes a tank farm and a 40,000-tonne-a-year (t/y) blending unit, which will be operated by the pair’s joint venture company, Oil Products Storage & Blending Alexandria (OPSBA).

The 34,000-square-metre facility near Alexandria was completed in October after a 16-month construction period. The tank farm has 23 tanks, which will store a total of 8,000 cubic metres of products. The facility will produce lubricants for manufacturing, agricultural and construction machinery, as well as the automotive sector.

Total has a 65 per cent stake in OPSBA, while Oilibya holds 35 per cent.
