Tunnel works completed at Riyadh King Salman Park

29 February 2024
The King Salman Park Foundation board of directors has announced the completion of construction at the Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Tunnel

The construction works are complete on the Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Tunnel at King Salman Park in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The announcement was made by the King Salman Park Foundation (KSPF) on Wednesday.

In a statement published by the Saudi Press Agency, KSPF said the tunnel will enhance traffic movement and join various areas of the King Salman Park project by connecting old and newly constructed tunnels.

The tunnel will be open for traffic from Thursday, 29 February.

The Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Tunnel is one of the first projects to be completed at the development. The 2.4-kilometre tunnel stretches from north to south, runs beneath King Salman Park, and has three lanes in each direction.

It includes a new 1.5km stretch that connects the existing 840-metre-long tunnel along Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Road to form an underpass.

Covering an area of 16.9 square kilometres, King Salman Park is located south of King Abdullah Road, north of Makkah Al Mukkarramah Road and west of the Eastern Ring Road.

Once completed, King Salman Park is expected to become the world’s largest urban park. It will have 12km of green space and over 150 attractions with 10 million square metres of built-up area. There will also be 18,000 car parking spaces.
