International bids have been invited for phase three civil engineering works on the Berke dam and hydroelectric power plant project. The client, Cukurova Elektrik (CEAS), has set a 1 October closing date for the works including drilling and grouting for the 510-MW plant on the Ceyhan river, in the southeast. The estimated cost of the works is $54 million (see Tenders).
One-third of the main civils portion had already been carried out by Italy's Italstrade, but the company withdrew from the project in 1994 claiming non-payment of $36 million by CEAS (MEED 11:11:94; 16:9:94).
