TURKEY: Degremont set for treatment plant

A venture of France's Degremont with the local Mapa has submitted the low bid of about $34.2 million for a water treatment works at Emirli. The contract is part of the $280 million Yesilcay water supply project for Istanbul. The client is the State Hydraulic Works.

The ventures of foreign and local companies bidding for the project were:

Mapa with Degremont - $34.2 million

Alarko with Italy's EMIT - $37.5 million

Alke with the US' Greeley & Hansen - $37.8 million

Tekser with the UK's Biwater International - $45 million

Guris with France's OTV - $46.5 million.

The contract calls for the construction of a new treatment plant with a capacity of 600,000 cubic metres a day. Part-financed by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, the Yesilcay project aims to supply about 145 million cubic metres of water a year to Istanbul (Water, MEED Special Report, 26:1:96, page 12-13).
