Italy's Nuovo Pignone submitted the low bid of $43.5 million, out of four returned, for the construction of a compressor station near Gebze, on the main natural gas import pipeline from Russia. Client is state pipeline agency Botas.
Bids returned by foreign and local companies are:
Nuovo Pignone (Italy) - $43.5 million
MAN Ghh (Germany) with Ere Muhendislik - $45.7 million
Framatome (France) with Enka Teknik - $45.9 million
Dresser Rand (US) with Tokar - $54 million
The project will be financed on a supplier credit basis. At present, there is only one compressor station on the section of pipeline between the Bulgarian border and Ankara. But Botas plans to build spurs from the pipeline to Canakkale, on the Sea of Marmara, and to the Eregli Iron & Steelworks on the Black Sea. They also plan to increase imports of Siberian natural gas to around 10 million cubic metres a year (cm/y) from about 6 million (cm/y) in 1995.
