UK-based Turner & Townsend has been appointed by the local United Steel Industries to project manage the construction of a new steel rolling mill in Fujairah.

Construction work on the scheme, which initially started in October 2006 before being put on hold in November 2008, is now due to start construction this month.

Located in the Fujairah Free Zone, the new steel rolling mill will produce straight rebar (reinforcing bars) and wire rod for the construction industry and will cover an area of 145,000 square metres, making it the largest steel rolling mill in the UAE.
