A suicide bomber has attacked a relief convoy carrying UAE officials on a military training mission in the Somali capital of Mogadishu.

The attack on 24 June killed three Somali soldiers and wounded several others.

The ambassador, Mohammed Othman al-Hammadi, was unhurt along with the other UAE officials. They were on board a bullet-proof vehicle embedded within the convoy, which the suicide bomber missed. The UAE has been providing aid to the country to help fight against terrorism.

Reuters reported that the incident took place near the military hospital where UAE officials conduct training for the Somali military.

UAE Minister for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash said the terrorist act will not deter the UAE from its “principled commitment to support Somalia and its brotherly people in confronting terorrism”.
