Six key individuals in the oil and gas contracting industry: Vaseem Khan, Alan McLean, In-Ho Jee, Marc Bonandrini, Peter Warner and Khaled Abu-Nasrah

Vaseem Khan

Position: Chief operating officer, Middle East, Technip

Biography: Vaseem Khan joined the Abu Dhabi office of France’s Technip in 2003. Since then, he has worked as engineering manager and project director on shallow-water offshore facilities in the Gulf, including the Abu Dhabi Marine Operation Company’s (Admoco) gas processing facility in the UAE and the Qatargas II offshore project in Qatar. Khan took up his current position in2009 with the formation of Technip’s Middle East business unit. He isresponsible for all project staff and production, including process, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning. Technip’s Middle East unit is headquartered in Abu Dhabi. Khan previously worked with the UK-based chemicals group ICI (now part of AkzoNobel) as corporate projects manager. He has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in mechanical engineering and a postgraduate diploma in international management.

Alan McLean

Position: Executive vice-president for Middle East, Africa and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Amec

Biography: Alan McLean has been with British engineering group Amec for more than 18 years, after spending the first part of his career in the mining and consultancy sectors. He is responsible for Amec’s business in the Middle East, Africa and the CIS. At Amec, McLean has worked in several senior roles in Aberdeen, Baku, London and now Abu Dhabi. He has overseen capital projects and asset support elements of Amec’s business. Before moving to head operations in Abu Dhabi, McLean was operations director in London, from where several projects for the Middle East, Africa and CIS were executed. Amec is currently handling the project management consultancy (PMC) for the development of Abu Dhabi’s Upper Zakum offshore oil field. It also won the PMC for earlyproduction facilities on the Nasr and Umm al-Lulu offshore fields.

In-Ho Jee

Position: Managing director, Samsung Engineering UAE

Biography: In-Ho Jee launched his career with South Korea’s Samsung Engineering as a project engineer for clients such as Samsung General Chemicals and Samsung Petrochemicals more than 25 years ago. In the intervening period, Jee has held several senior positions with the company, including general manager of Samsung Engineering Thailand and head of the overseas business development team in South Korea. More recently, he was responsible for the successful execution of key projects in the UAE. He was project manager of the Borouge 2 olefins conversion unit, which was completed in 2010. Later, Jee was deputy project director for the Borouge 3 polyolefins expansion project. In his current role, Jee oversees projects in the GCC, outside Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. He has a degree in mechanical engineering from Yonsei University in South Korea.

Marc Bonandrini

Position: Business development director, Middle East, India and North Sea, McDermott

Biography: Marc Bonandrini has been business development director at US offshore oil and gas specialist McDermott since November 2010, joining from UK engineering group Subsea 7. Bonandrini launched his career in the oil and gas industry in 1995 as an offshore services contractor after graduating from Robert Gordon University in the UK. In 2000, he relocated to California to work for Remote Ocean Systems. He later moved to Houston to work for ABB Offshore Systems. Bonandrini spent six years with ABB and its affiliate companies Vetco Gray and GE Oil and Gas. At the latter he was responsible for the North Sea, West Africa regions and the former Soviet Union republics. In 2008, he joined Subsea 7 and worked as sales and marketingmanager for two years before taking on his current role at McDermott. The US company is currently bidding on several major offshore contracts in Abu Dhabi.

Peter Warner

Position: Chief executive officer (CEO), Petrofac Emirates

Biography: Peter Warner is CEO of Petrofac Emirates, a joint venture of UK-headquartered Petrofac International and Abu Dhabi’s state-owned investment vehicle Mubadala Development Company. Petrofac Emirates was founded in 2008 to provide a full range of engineering, design, procurement and construction services for onshore energy projects in the UAE. Before joining Petrofac in 2000, Warner worked in sales and marketing positions at  Davy McKee and US-based engineering contractors KBR and Stone & Webster. He has a degree in chemical engineering from the UK’s Cambridge University and is a fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers and Chartered Engineers in the UK. Petrofac Emirates won its first major contract in Abu Dhabi in July 2010 from Abu Dhabi Gas Industries (Gasco) for the construction of a fourth natural gas liquids train at the Ruwais complex.

Khaled Abu-Nasrah

Position: President, Middle East, KBR

Biography: Khaled Abu-Nasrah took up his current position as president of the Middle East region at engineering contractor KBR in January 2011. He hasspent his entire career at KBR in business development, contracts management and projects control in the hydrocarbons and infrastructure sectors. As president, Abu-Nasrah’s role is maintaining relationships between KBR and its customers in the Middle East and working on business development in the region. He holds a degree in information systems and marketing from DeVry University in the US. He is an executive programme graduate from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia, also in the US. Abu-Nasrah is a member of the Project Management Institute and the Authority for Total Cost Management and previously served as a board member and treasurer for the American Business Association.
